In this case study, CPL Business Consultants was engaged by an ingredients company to provide a market entry strategy and implementation advice for chymosin. The client subsequently launched a successful product and has since been acquired by a larger player in the market.

The objective of this study was to update previous reports for this client on chymosin with implementation advice for a market entry strategy. This study focussed on specific information about patents due for expiration, recent patents and competition with larger players.

CPL contacted companies identified previously that could potentially produce GM chymosin. We briefly examined the changes in attitudes to GM and GM-derived ingredients and re-examined the commercial position of key players. We obtained a fairly definitive list of potential production partners worldwide and considered some of the questions related to toll fermentation.
