In this case study, CPL Business Consultants was engaged by an international ingredients company to provide information and insights into the glutathione market.

Objective

Glutathione is known as the ‘master antioxidant’ because of its role in preventing cell damage from reactive oxygen species. It is produced via fermentation or enzymatically and is used as an ingredient in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and functional food and beverages. Glutathione also serves as a substrate for the manufacture of a number of derivatives with district properties and benefits.

The objective of this project was to assist our client in its understanding of the market for glutathione. CPL reported on glutathione producers, volumes, quality grades, distribution channels, how it is sold, and into which markets. We also advised our client on risks posed by competing antioxidant ingredients and opportunities for ‘next generation’ glutathione products.

Method

CPL examined publicly available literature, databases, annual reports and trade press. We also interviewed glutathione producers, distributors, contract manufacturers and industry experts. In total, contact was made with over 40 companies.
