Dr Robert Harwood is Managing Director of CPL Business Consultants.

Dr Robert Harwood joined CPL Business Consultants in 2002, strengthening CPL’s financial and market analysis capabilities. 

Robert has worked on over 250 strategy consulting engagements with CPL.  These include projects on markets, technologies, growth strategies and acquisitions. Markets include plant proteins, health ingredients, feed additives, biopesticides, fine chemicals, soluble fibres, bulking agents and, unusually, intra-ocular lenses.

Robert leads CPL’s industry experts in buy-side, sell-side and distressed debt due diligence projects in food, feed and agriculture. Also, Robert has experience working with Private Equity clients on growth strategies for portfolio companies. 

Before CPL, Robert spent five years in new product development and regulatory work with Charles River, a contract research laboratory. He was a lecturer at the Scottish Agricultural College in Auchincruive.

Robert did his MBA at Edinburgh University, his PhD at the University of Southampton, and BSc at Imperial College, London (awarded the Murray Prize).  In addition, he has completed the Oxford Private Equity Programme at Saïd Business SchoolUniversity of Oxford

Dr Robert Harwood is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.  He has a special interest in the developing insect protein market. He is also a Member of the Institute of Food Technologists, sitting on the IFT Trendsetting Workgroup, and a Member of the Society of Feed Technologists. Robert has served as a judge for the World Bioprotection Awards and is sits on the Nutrition Capital Network Selection Committee.
