AY10 Anti-Insect Netting

Have a look at our PowerPoint Introduction and Brochure describing deliverables, differentiators and case studies. Eight case studies can also be reviewed.

Objective

The purpose of the study was to assess the market for anti-insect netting (anti-caterpillar, anti-whitefly and anti-thrips) in the protected cultivation sector of European and the Mediterranean Basin agriculture with particular focus on France, Italy, Spain and Turkey.

The main focus was on the structures and surface area of greenhouses currently covered by anti-insect netting, the lifetime of anti-insect netting, estimates of yield and revenue losses due to insects and the manufacturers of netting.

Method

The early stages of the research involved a review of the technical aspects related to the use of anti-insect netting through the scientific and trade literature and various internet sources, focussing primarily on Italy, Spain, Turkey and France.

With these initial sources, CPL attempted to identify key individuals with expertise in this area. Where possible, individuals were contacted by telephone or approached by email. We developed a consolidated list of the key agricultural netting production companies in the key countries and noted any significant companies outside those countries if they kept reoccurring in our searches.

Where possible the companies were contacted by telephone, sometimes by email, in order to obtain information on their organisations, their product range and to address the other questions under review.
