In this case study a sugar company engaged CPL Business Consultants to analyse the market dynamics for sugar beet pectin as part of its business growth strategy. CPL was able to give an independent fact-based view of the market and made strategic recommendations based on its findings.
Objective
The objective of this study was to assist our client in developing its plans for sugar beet pectin as a soluble fibre ingredient. We provided information on companies selling similar products at the time and their products. Our analysis of the market included identification of barriers to entry, success factors and the price elasticity for fibres. This enabled us to make recommendations to the client on the prospects for soluble fibre ingredients.
Method
For this project CPL identified soluble-fibre ingredients and their manufacturers, and obtained information on their price and technical attributes. We also obtained information on the global beverage market to assess the potential of soluble fibre in this sector. Contact was made with customers and formulators to gain an understanding of trends and opinions on the potential for new products.
